Israel Adesanya has announced his long-awaited comeback to the UFC, with the former champion scheduled to face his arch rival in Perth.
Adesanya, 34, declared a mixed martial arts break following his shocking defeat by Sean Strickland in Sydney in September, after a remarkable but taxing series of middleweight championship defenses.
His comeback to the Octagon has long been discussed, with Adesanya being heavily associated with the headlining spot for UFC 300, but his bitter adversary Dricus du Plessis was unable to agree to the date.
However, the South African appears to have recovered from the injuries he sustained during his arduous championship triumph against Strickland, as Adesanya posted a mocked-up image of himself donning the UFC’s brand new golden gloves on Instagram.
Adesanya captioned the post: ”The SUN of Africa is the same sun that lights up our planet.
”The SUN will set and will rise again until you walk into it. The SUN, enjoy while it shines. Darkness falls when it’s gone.”
Adesanya last competed over a year ago at UFC 293. Despite entering the fight as the favorite, he failed to solve opponent Sean Strickland’s defensive jigsaw and eventually lost his championship.
The Nigerian native will now attempt to reclaim middleweight gold. To accomplish so, he must overcome the domineering Dricus Du Plessis.
