President Bola Tinubu has described the death of former Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, at 71, as a great loss to Delta State and Nigeria, paying tribute to his years of dedicated public service.
Tinubu said Uduaghan devoted his leadership to the development of Delta State and national service, highlighting his contributions to infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the welfare of the people during his eight-year tenure as governor.
The President, in a condolence message issued on Monday, extended his sympathies to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli; his children; his cousin and former Delta governor, James Ibori; as well as his friends, political associates and other mourners.
“Dr Uduaghan was a public servant whose leadership was devoted to Delta State’s development and service to our nation,” Tinubu said.
Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, having previously served as commissioner for health and secretary to the state government.
Tinubu noted that the former governor occupied a central position in Delta State’s political and developmental journey during his two terms in office, pursuing initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare services and the overall welfare of residents.
According to the President, Uduaghan remained involved in the state’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and the advancement of public service in Nigeria.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” Tinubu said.
The President urged the people of Delta State to draw strength from Uduaghan’s years of service and the enduring relationships he built across the country’s political and social landscape.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Nigeria, I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife, Roli; his children; his cousin, former Governor James Ibori; and friends and political associates whose lives he impacted,” he said.
Tinubu prayed that Almighty God would grant the former governor eternal rest and comfort his family and all those mourning his death.
