The Delta State Government has dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms claiming that former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has died, describing the information as false and misleading.

The clarification came after reports surfaced late Wednesday night alleging that the former governor had passed away, sparking concern among political associates, supporters and residents across the state.

Responding to the claims, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Mr Ossai Ovie Success, said he immediately contacted the family of the former governor to verify the report and was informed that Uduaghan is alive and in good health.

In a statement titled “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False,” Ossai said he spoke directly with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that the report was untrue.

“I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead,” he said.

“Some people have been reaching out to me asking, ‘Ossai Ovie Success, is the news real?’ I immediately reached out to his family to confirm. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, on the phone, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr Uduaghan is alive.”

Ossai condemned those responsible for spreading the rumour, describing the act as irresponsible and harmful to the former governor’s family and admirers.

“I am disappointed at those who spread such false information without verification. Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel, irresponsible and causes unnecessary pain to the family and millions of Deltans who hold him in high regard,” he stated.

He urged members of the public to avoid sharing unverified information and to disregard the report entirely.

“I urge the public to disregard the rumour and avoid sharing unverified information. Let us show respect for life and for our leaders. Dr Uduaghan is fine and not dead,” he added.

The statement has helped calm anxiety across Delta State following the widespread circulation of the false report on social media and some online news platforms.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015 and remains one of the state’s most influential political figures. The latest clarification from the state government has put to rest speculation surrounding his health and wellbeing.
