Paris Saint-Germain handed Barcelona their first defeat of the season after beating the Spanish giants 4-2 in a thrilling Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes.
Desire Doué, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scored for the defending champions, who survived a spirited Barcelona comeback to claim all three points.
Doué opened the scoring in the 38th minute after PSG pressed Barcelona into losing possession in their own half. The French forward drove towards the penalty area before firing a low shot into the bottom-left corner.
Barcelona responded 10 minutes into the second half when 19-year-old full-back Xavi Espart struck at the near post after bursting into the box to make it 1-1.
PSG restored their advantage in the 72nd minute as Hernandez rose above the Barcelona defence to power a header past goalkeeper Joan García from a corner.
Barcelona refused to surrender, with Lamine Yamal producing a moment of individual brilliance to level the scores at 2-2 in the 79th minute. The teenager turned Warren Zaïre-Emery before racing into the penalty area and squeezing his finish past goalkeeper Matvey Safonov at the near post.
However, PSG regained the lead less than two minutes later through Vitinha, who controlled a clearance with his chest before unleashing a superb volley into the bottom corner.
Ruiz completed the scoring in the 86th minute, converting Achraf Hakimi’s low cross at the back post to seal an emphatic victory for the hosts.
The result ended Barcelona’s 11-match unbeaten run at the start of the season and strengthened PSG’s position in the Champions League league phase.
PSG had threatened early, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hitting the post just 79 seconds into the match after Pedri lost possession. Doué and Ousmane Dembélé also tested García after Barcelona were caught out by the hosts’ high press.
Barcelona created chances of their own, but Raphinha shot straight at Safonov after receiving a pass from Anthony Gordon.
García later denied Ferran Torres twice before Doué broke the deadlock. Torres had replaced the injured Dembélé and subsequently struck the post after the restart, shortly before Hernandez put PSG back in front.
PSG now have nine points from the league phase and will travel to Spain to face Villarreal on Tuesday, 3 November. Barcelona remain on six points and will host Aston Villa on the same day.
