Another tragic incident has struck Onitsha as a five-storey building under construction collapsed on Basden Street in Fegge.

The Anambra State Police Command, through DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the collapse, indicating that their operatives are on the scene to assess the situation.

While details remain scarce, an eyewitness revealed that the building, intended for commercial use upon completion, crumbled early on a Sunday morning, trapping some workers on the top floor.

The collapse began on the fifth floor, progressing downward. As rescue efforts commence, it’s reported that two workers are trapped and others have been injured, receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals.

Chinyere Nwoye, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, stated they were not yet informed about the collapse. This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another building collapse in Ochanja Market, Onitsha, just two weeks prior, which claimed five lives.
