The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two murder suspects, Akaninyine Eretus, aged 40  and a 35-year old lady,  Uduak Essien.

The suspects are implicated in two separate murder cases of one  Okon Ikon and that of another  male victim simply identified as Okonkon.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said on 28th May, 2026, at about 1530hrs, one Mmawan Okon reported at Creek Town Police Post that his father, Mr. Okon Ikon, had been missing.

“Following the report, family members initiated traditional inquiries, which allegedly revealed that the missing person had been killed and that his remains could be located in a nearby bush.

“Consequently, a combined team of Police operatives, military personnel, and community youths conducted a coordinated search of the area. During the operation, the male suspect believed to be connected to the incident was apprehended in a hideout within the bush.

“Upon interrogation, the male suspect led the search team to a location where the severed head of the missing person, Mr. Okon Ikon, was recovered.

“Further investigation and search efforts also led to the discovery and recovery of the remains of a second deceased person, identified as Mr. Okonkon, buried in a separate location within the same bush”, ASP Eitokpah said.

He added that the suspects are  currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and that  investigations are ongoing  to ascertain the motives and circumstances  surrounding the incident.
