Turkish clubs queue up for Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho

Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho could be set for a transfer move away from Celtic Park, after his option for an automatic extension ran out on June 30, leaving the 29-year-old attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe as he weighs up his next move.

According to The Scottish Sun, several top Turkish clubs have been alerted to Iheanacho’s availability, with recent reports from suggesting that he already has offers on the table to move to the Super Lig.

Iheanacho has had plenty of injury issues in recent years, but he is still set to have a whole host of suitors this summer.

The Nigerian is vastly experienced having previously enjoyed lengthy spells with both Manchester City and Leicester.

He helped Celtic to a league and cup double last season, but is currently a free agent after his contract expired.

Iheancho’s future currently hangs in the balance, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic will respond positively to his desire to stay.

O’Neill relied on him heavily to produce big moments for the team in the latter stages of the season, but that has not been enough for him to be rewarded with a new contract.

Football Insider revealed earlier in June that Celtic are set to add at least one new striker to their ranks this summer.

O’Neill is concerned by the lack of physicality at the top of the pitch, and is believed to be after a new target man, following Tomas Cvancara’s departure.

Daizen Maeda’s future at Parkhead is also firmly up in the air, meaning Celtic could line up with a totally revamped frontline by the start of 2026-27.
