A civil advocacy group, Rescue Movement for New Nigeria (RMNN), has rejected any suggestion of a United States–led military intervention in Nigeria, insisting that foreign invasion is not the solution to the country’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement by the group’s National Secretary, Rotimi Daniels, the RMNN condemned the persistent insecurity across the nation and accused successive administrations of failing to protect citizens and ensure accountability in governance.

“No sane man will support any military invasion in Nigeria. We demand accountability from the Nigerian Government,” Daniels said. “The government has successively failed the citizens over time.”

The group criticised both the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the current government led by President Bola Tinubu, alleging that neither has demonstrated the capacity or sincerity to address the rising tide of terrorism, banditry and kidnappings.

According to RMNN, Nigeria has witnessed an escalation of kidnappings and community onslaughts, while the government appears more concerned with political defections than the safety of its citizens.

“Residents of communities under attack have surrendered their fate into the hands of gun-brandishing terrorists, paying taxes and dues to stay alive. Their government has failed them in all totality,” the statement read.

The group also highlighted the religious dimension of many recent attacks, citing incidents such as the Owo Catholic Church massacre, the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction and the killings in Benue and Southern Kaduna as examples of unchecked violence.

It, however, cautioned Nigerians against allowing tribal or religious sentiments to overshadow the urgent need for a united national response.

While rejecting the idea of a U.S. invasion, the RMNN emphasised that the ultimate solution lies in good governance, electoral reform and a justice system that upholds the will of the people.

“If the United States invasion will bring lasting peace, so be it, but it is still not the best option,” Daniels stated. “What we are advocating and asking for is good governance and accountability in Nigeria.”

The group called for comprehensive electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary to ensure that the outcome truly reflects the will of Nigerians.

“Let the 2027 general elections be a reflection of the people’s wish and not the suppression of the same through election manipulations and outright illegality,” the statement concluded.

The Rescue Movement for New Nigeria described its mission as a push for an inclusive, people-oriented democracy that fosters justice, patriotism and national unity.
