U.S. President Donald J. Trump has claimed that the United States is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as a “new and more reasonable regime” in Iran.
The statement, posted on his Truth Social platform and later circulated via his X handle, has not been confirmed by U.S. or Iranian officials.
In his words, “We are having very serious discussions with Iran, with a new and more reasonable regime.”
Trump added, “We will see what happens, but talks are ongoing.”
He also issued a warning tied to the Strait of Hormuz, saying, “If a deal is not reached quickly, and the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately, we will have no choice but to respond strongly.”

Outlining what such a response could involve, he stated, “We are fully prepared to take action against key infrastructure, including oil facilities, power plants, and other critical assets.”
He further said, “This will be done if necessary, and it will be done swiftly.”
Trump framed the potential move as a response to past attacks on U.S. personnel, adding, “This is about protecting American lives and interests.”
Despite the strong language, there has been no official confirmation from Washington or Tehran regarding the existence of such talks or any planned military action.
For now, the president’s remarks remain unverified claims, even as they draw international attention.
