CNN, MS NOW and Politico are taking legal action against the Trump administration after their journalists were barred from accessing the White House.
The three news organisations announced on Monday that they had notified the U.S. government of their intention to file a lawsuit seeking to restore their access and protect their First Amendment rights.
“This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes,” the outlets said in a joint statement.
They said the White House revoked their journalists’ credentials without notice or due process because of objections to their reporting.

The organisations argued that the decision raises concerns about press freedom and the ability of journalists to independently cover the government.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, with the outlets seeking an emergency order that could restore their access while the case proceeds.
The legal action followed President Donald Trump’s announcement on Friday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be banned from the White House.
Trump accused the outlets of publishing what he described as “fake news” and said other media organisations could face similar restrictions.
