A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been killed, while several other people sustained injuries after an articulated truck reportedly rammed into multiple vehicles around the Agodi Gardens area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Witnesses said the truck had allegedly hit several vehicles around the Sango area before proceeding towards Agodi Gardens, where it reportedly collided with a motorcycle conveying the corps member, resulting in the fatality.

An eyewitness who spoke to Daily Sun said the truck driver had been involved in multiple collisions around Sango before the incident near Agodi Gardens.

“The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi,” the eyewitness said.

The witness added that the incident took a fatal turn when the truck reached the Agodi Gardens area and rammed into a motorcycle carrying the corps member.

“The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the eyewitness said.

According to the account, the driver was allegedly attempting to escape after the earlier collisions before the fatal crash occurred near Agodi Gardens. However, the circumstances surrounding the earlier incidents and the alleged attempt to flee had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

The accident reportedly caused significant traffic disruption around the affected areas, forcing the diversion of motorists as emergency responders moved to the scene.

Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reportedly arrived at the scene, while the injured victims were said to have been taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The identity of the deceased corps member and the exact number of injured victims had yet to be officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

It was also unclear whether the truck driver had been arrested or what caused the initial collisions.

Further details were awaited as authorities worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, three employees of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Ibadan, who were abducted by armed men, have regained their freedom after spending six days in captivity.

The victims, identified as Eunice Babalola, Kehinde Gbalajobi and another employee known as Nelson, were reportedly kidnapped last Thursday while working on a farm within the institute’s premises.

The armed men were said to have stormed the farm at about 1pm before whisking the three workers away to an undisclosed location.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦40 million for each victim but allegedly reduced their demand to ₦50 million for the three employees during negotiations.

The victims reportedly regained their freedom in the early hours of Wednesday after security operatives located them in a bush near Globus Farm, also known as Triton.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the rescue but did not disclose whether any ransom was paid to secure the release of the abducted workers.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security agencies were continuing efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
