Electorate at the two polling units at the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, have locked the gates of the institution, refusing to let officials the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leave the venue until they are giving opportunity to vote.
The two polling units are said have 3000 electorate on the list but only 500 voted before the election officials declared that ballot papers have finished.
The electorate who have been at the venue since morning could not allow anyone disenfranchise locking gates of the institution staying that the INEC officials will not leave until all eligible voters have cast their votes.
The large crowd of over 2500 who were described as mean and women of means took every available space in the school compound causing tension in the area.
One of the affected electorate, a lecturer in one of the tertiary institutions in the state, who spoke to our correspondent on phone from the scene on anonymity said, “I am calling from School of Dental School, Trans Elu, we have locked the gate these INEC people will not leave here until all of us have voted.
“Can you imagine that out of about 3000 of us whose names are here only 500 voted and they said that ballot papers have finished. It can’t happen in this election, for you to disenfranchise 2500 electorates, it will not happen.”
Following the seriousness of their protest, INEC were said to have around 8.45pm brought ballot papers for them to continue with voting.
