Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation UDO KA, have exhumed the remains of a murdered community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community in Imo State, from a shallow grave inside Umudike Forest, following the confession of a suspect arrested over a string of violent crimes in the area.

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, disclosed that the breakthrough was achieved through sustained intelligence-driven operations that recently led to the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen military weapons.

According to Ayeni, during interrogation, one of the suspects confessed to participating in the murder of Chief Anyadu and volunteered to lead troops to the location where the victim’s body had been buried.

He said that on August 2, 2026, the suspect guided the troops to a shallow grave hidden within Umudike Forest, identified as one of the criminal group’s notorious camps, where the remains of the late community leader were successfully exhumed.

The exhumation was carried out in the presence of members of the deceased’s family, vigilante operatives from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, as well as representatives of the Aggah and Umudike communities, to ensure transparency throughout the process.

Following the recovery of the remains, the family provided a coffin and an ambulance to convey the body for a dignified burial in accordance with their customs and traditions.

Reacting to the development, the Commander of Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that justice would be served.

He said the arrested suspects would be prosecuted in line with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that the military remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice.

Operation UDO KA reaffirmed its resolve to sustain ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the South-East, apprehending perpetrators of violent crimes, and providing justice and closure for victims and their families through lawful means.
