Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered weapons and motorcycles during an encounter in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt.Col. Aliyu Danja disclosed this in a Friday statement.
According to the statement, the operation followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of Friday, August 28 on the movement of terrorists conveying hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area of Rabah LGA.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2 moved to intercept and attack the terrorists,” the statement reads in part.
While advancing, the troops encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists.
The military said troops responded with superior firepower, neutralised two terrorists and forced the remaining elements to flee into surrounding bushes.
During exploitation of the area, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The statement added that the rustled cattle dispersed into the bushes during the firefight. Efforts are ongoing in conjunction with local vigilantes to locate and recover the livestock.
“The general area remains calm and stable as troops continue to dominate the area and maintain vigilance to prevent further terrorist activities,” Danja said.
He added that troops of Operation Fansan Yamma remain resolute in sustaining operational momentum against terrorist and criminal elements while safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
