Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion, operating under the 81 Division, have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State and arrested six suspected oil bunkerers during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation, led by the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected oil thieves operating in the area.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, disclosed that the troops stormed the illegal bunkering site and successfully apprehended six suspects.
He said the operation also led to the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for illegal bunkering activities.
According to him, the suspects, alongside the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised the officers and soldiers for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to duty.
He urged the troops to sustain the ongoing offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, stressing that the Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at protecting the nation’s critical economic assets and enhancing security across the country.
