Tripple 44 Football Academy is set to collaborate with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to transform a neglected area of Liberty Stadium in Ibadan into a modern sports facility. This partnership aims to enhance grassroots sports development and promote talent discovery in Nigeria.
Under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko, the NSC has been dedicated to upgrading existing sports facilities while encouraging private-sector involvement. Tripple 44 Academy, led by CEO Olatunji Okuku, is aligning with this mission by presenting a proposal to convert an underutilized “refuse dump site” into a top-class football facility through a build-and-donate arrangement.
The proposed project includes the development of:- A high-standard 11-a-side football pitch, – A 7-a-side mini-pitch for training and grassroots engagement.
After strategic discussions with the NSC Chairman, Olatunji Okuku shared the motivation behind the initiative. “We saw immense potential in this site, which has been neglected and, at one point, became a hideout for criminals. This facility will be a game-changer for grassroots football in Ibadan and across Nigeria. We aim to build a standard football pitch and a mini-training ground with stands that will serve both the public and our academy’s needs. This is about giving back and creating an environment where young talents can flourish.”
This collaboration highlights Tripple 44 Academy’s commitment to supporting the National Sports Commission in fostering football development through strategic private-sector investment. By repurposing an underutilized space, the Academy seeks to create a modern facility that supports talent discovery, grassroots engagement, and community development, in line with the NSC’s broader vision of enhancing sports infrastructure across Nigeria.
Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, praised the initiative, stating, “We are committed to sparking a sports infrastructure revolution across the country. This partnership with Tripple 44 Academy aligns with our vision of ensuring our facilities are not only functional but also maintained to global standards. Talents can only be discovered and nurtured if the right infrastructure exists.”
Dikko emphasized the necessity of public-private partnerships to address the infrastructure deficit, noting that such collaborations can reduce reliance on government funding.
For Tripple 44 Academy, this project represents more than just facility development; it is a significant step toward realizing Nigeria’s football potential on the global stage. Inspired by successful models in countries like Senegal and Morocco, the Academy believes that deliberate investment in infrastructure will yield substantial benefits for Nigerian football.
Once approved, Tripple 44 Academy is prepared to fully fund the project’s development and maintenance, ensuring the facilities meet modern standards and serve as a benchmark for grassroots sports in Nigeria.
By transforming a previously neglected dumping site into a state-of-the-art football hub, this build-and-donate arrangement showcases the powerful impact of strategic partnerships in transforming Nigeria’s sports landscape.
This collaboration marks a transformational milestone in the journey to revitalize Nigerian sports, promote youth development, and highlight Nigeria’s abundant football talent.
