Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt has received a five-year contract offer from Manchester United.

According to Sky Germany, De Ligt is eager to seal the deal.

It is also thought that United has undertaken preliminary conversations with Bayern to discuss the terms of a prospective deal.

Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with De Ligt at Ajax, wants the defender to join his side at Old Trafford next season.

Bayern valued the 24-year-old at €50 million (£42.4 million) with add-ons.

De Ligt joined Bayern Munich for £68 million in 2022, but he only made 16 league appearances last season as the club failed to win the title for the first time in more than a decade.

The former Ajax star is one of United’s main defensive targets this summer, along with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

According to the Dutch magazine De Telegraaf, United has communicated conditions to De Ligt, and an agreement is likely soon.
