Traffic gridlock as trailer overturns on Otedola Bridge

Vehicular traffic along the popular Otedola Bridge inward Lagos was grounded to a halt on Wednesday morning after a truck conveying two 20-feet containers overturned.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the development in an X post.

Officials said the incident occurred around 7:00 am, causing traffic gridlock that extended beyond Kara Bridge.

According to the agency, the Mack truck developed a battery/mechanical fault Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat.

“During an attempted private recovery, the truck overturned, causing the containers to fall onto the roadway,” the post reads in part.

The agency said a high-capacity tow truck was already on ground while a crane was being mobilised as of 8:45 am to evacuate the fallen overturned truck.

“LASTMA Rescue & Recovery Team also on ground at the scene for vehicle removal and traffic control, with personnel fully on ground.

“Traffic backlog has extended beyond Kara Bridge.

“Recovery operations ongoing,” the post added.
