Kaftan, synonymous with loose-fitting robes or tunics, is believed to have originated from the Middle East and North Africa. Traditionally, it is a narrow-cut, long robe with full sleeves, often with a deep open neck or fully open to the floor, and sometimes buttoned. However, the voluminous garment without defined sleeves is closer to the abaya.
