As the world marks World Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2025, with the theme “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage,” First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for immediate attention to the critical shortage of teachers.
In a statement she personally signed to mark the day, Mrs. Tinubu described teaching as one of society’s noblest professions and emphasised the need to empower educators, invest in their professional growth, and inspire new entrants into the field.
“The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront with urgency, by empowering educators, investing in their growth, and inspiring more to join this noble profession,” she said.

Highlighting the vital role teachers play, she added, “Teachers are true heroes, shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations.”
Drawing from her own lifelong experience in education, the First Lady expressed solidarity with teachers across Nigeria: “As a lifelong teacher myself, I salute you all on this Special Day.”
She concluded by extending warm wishes to educators nationwide: “Happy World Teachers Day 2025.”
