Tinubu’s UK visit: Nigerian jollof is best – King Charles

King Charles hosts Tinubu during 2026 state visit

British monarch King Charles III has reaffirmed the supremacy of Nigerian jollof rice, stating that he was assured it is the best.

King Charles, while playing host to President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, at the banquet, which formed part of the high-level engagements lined up for the president’s historic two-day visit, revealed that he was in the presence of a Nigerian group for a ‘Jollof and Tea’ party at St. James’s Palace.

He stated that the United Kingdom is blessed that people of Nigerian heritage chose Britain as their home.

“Only last week, I was delighted to host a rather lively group of them for a ‘Jollof and Tea’ party at St. James’s Palace. I was firmly assured that the jollof was only the best: Nigerian, of course… or perhaps Ghanaian or Senegalese. Diplomatically, I cannot remember!

“We in the United Kingdom are blessed that so many people of Nigerian heritage, having chosen Britain as their home, are now at the heart of British life through excelling at the highest levels of business, technology, academia, law, science, sport, literature, and the arts,” King Charles said.
