The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a failure, describing it as “renewed hopelessness” and insisting that Nigerians deserve tangible improvements rather than political slogans.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi argued that the current administration had failed to improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians, adding that its policies had neither inspired confidence nor delivered meaningful results.
“No, no—that’s renewed hopelessness. It’s not working,” Obi said when asked whether his economic vision was similar to the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that the country needed genuine hope rooted in visible progress and accountable leadership.
“The kind of hope I’ll bring is real hope—tangible hope that people will see and feel,” he stated.
Obi also criticised President Tinubu’s communication style, accusing him of distancing himself from Nigerians and allowing aides to speak on his behalf.
“It’s not even ‘audio hope’ because the man we voted for isn’t even talking to us anymore. The person we voted for is Bola Tinubu. He’s no longer talking to us; he’s gone into Aso Rock and turned it into a bunker,” he said.
According to Obi, elected leaders have a responsibility to engage directly with citizens and explain government policies and decisions.
“A leader’s first duty is to speak directly to the people. I will speak to the people myself. I’ll tell them: I said I would do this; this is where things stand—that’s commitment,” he added.
