The Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for choosing Kaduna State as the venue for the flag-off of his 2027 presidential campaign, describing the decision as a significant development for the state and the wider northern region.

Yakubu also praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for what he described as proactive preparations ahead of the October 24 campaign flag-off, stressing that effective planning and coordination are essential to hosting a successful political event.

In a statement, the Arewa Think Tank Convener said Kaduna’s selection underscored the state’s strategic importance in Nigeria’s political landscape and its longstanding role in shaping political discourse in the North.

He said: “The decision to choose Kaduna State for the flag-off of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign is significant. Kaduna occupies an important place in Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape, and hosting an event of this magnitude places the state at the centre of national political engagement.”

Yakubu noted that Kaduna’s diversity, strategic location and prominence as a major political and economic centre make it an important venue for events with national significance.

According to him, the decision provides an opportunity to promote political engagement and encourage constructive discussions about the country’s future.

“Kaduna is a state of great historical and political importance to Nigeria. Its diversity and strategic position make it a significant meeting point for political stakeholders from different parts of the country,” he said.

The Arewa Think Tank Convener also commended Governor Uba Sani for the preparations being made ahead of the scheduled October 24 campaign flag-off.

He said adequate planning, coordination and cooperation among relevant stakeholders would be essential to ensuring that the event proceeds peacefully and in an orderly manner.

“I commend Governor Uba Sani for the efforts being made ahead of the October 24 campaign flag-off. Preparing for an event of this magnitude requires coordination, commitment and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders,” Yakubu said.

He added that the governor’s preparations highlighted the importance of early planning and institutional collaboration in hosting major political gatherings.

Yakubu expressed optimism that the preparations would help create an enabling environment for the event, while urging government officials, security agencies, political stakeholders and other relevant bodies to work together towards its success.

“What matters most is ensuring that the event is conducted in a peaceful, orderly and dignified manner. All stakeholders have a responsibility to contribute to an atmosphere that reflects democratic maturity and respect for the rule of law,” he added.

Beyond the campaign flag-off, Yakubu urged political actors and their supporters to embrace peaceful political participation and demonstrate tolerance for differing political opinions.

He said political campaigns should provide opportunities for constructive engagement, issue-based discussions and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

“Political activities should not be reduced to rivalry or hostility. They should provide opportunities for engagement, the exchange of ideas and discussions about the policies and programmes that can improve the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

He called on residents of Kaduna State, political supporters and other participants to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the event.

Yakubu emphasised that political differences should not undermine peaceful coexistence, adding that respect for opposing views remains an important element of democratic practice.

The Arewa Think Tank Convener further stressed that political campaigns should address the pressing concerns of Nigerians, particularly security, economic development, job creation, infrastructure and improved living standards.

According to him, citizens expect political leaders to engage meaningfully with the challenges confronting the country and present ideas that can contribute to national development.

“While campaign activities are important to the democratic process, Nigerians are equally concerned about security, economic opportunities, employment, infrastructure and the general welfare of citizens. These issues deserve sustained attention in our national political conversations,” he said.

He added that responsible leadership and constructive political engagement were necessary for strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.

Yakubu reiterated his appreciation to President Tinubu for selecting Kaduna as the venue for the campaign flag-off and commended Governor Uba Sani for the preparations ahead of the October 24 event.

He urged all relevant stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring a peaceful gathering, noting that the conduct of political activities should reflect the country’s commitment to democratic values, national unity and peaceful coexistence.
