President Bola Tinubu has urged all political stakeholders and the electorate in Saturday’s Ondo State off-cycle governorship election, to uphold peace and decorum and fulfil their civic responsibilities without fear before and after the elections.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said he anticipates a democratic process in the state that will genuinely reflect the people’s will and power to freely choose their leaders.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its diligent preparations for the election, particularly its timely distribution of sensitive materials across all 18 local government areas in the state.
He also acknowledged the deployment of security men to maintain law and order. In order to guarantee a credible election process, he said he values the guarantees provided by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector-General of Police that the personnel will act professionally and in accordance with the law.
President Tinubu reminded all political actors—especially the candidates—that the power to rule is a privilege bestowed by the people, and that it must be preserved.
He stressed that solidifying more than 25 years of democratic administration and ensuring a free and fair election are in the best interests of all Nigerians.
