President Ahmed Tinubu has urged the former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and other family members of late Florence Saraki to uphold the legacy their mother left behind.

Speaking through the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented him at funeral service held at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina, Lagos on Friday for the matriarch, who died on June 18, 2024 at 89 years.

In his brief remarks, Akpabio said:  “No matter how old a mother is, she is too dear to lose, a woman to be treasured, a gentle woman, pillar to her home, state and the nation, a woman who saw to the need of the downtrodden and contributed to the less privileged and vulnerable in the society.”

Turning to the bereaved Saraki family, he said: “You have a lot of cries to make, irrespective of your challenges because when my mother died I cried for her for one year.”

An assemblage of notable personalities including the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, Governor Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, captains of industries, chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others, were in attendance to commiserate with the former Senate President and the family.

A private interment later followed the funeral service while a reception was held for guests at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
