Tinubu to open JIBWIS, Muslim World League conference on security, unity

President Bola Tinubu declare open an international conference on security and national unity organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in collaboration with the Muslim World League, Saudi Arabia tomorrow.

The conference, scheduled to hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, will examine global security within the context of Nigeria’s national security, with particular focus on kidnapping and banditry.

According to a statement by the Media and Publicity Committee of the conference’s Planning Committee, the event is themed “Diversity and Peaceful Coexistence among People.”

The conference will focus on promoting unity among Muslims irrespective of sect, fostering unity across ethnic and tribal lines, and promoting peaceful coexistence with people of other faiths in accordance with Islamic teachings.

The organisers said participants would be encouraged to respect differences among Muslim sects and avoid provocative statements capable of undermining unity.

“We can hold on to our respective sects while respecting Muslims of other sects. Fighting among sects weakens the Muslim Ummah as a whole,” the statement said.

The two-day conference, which begins at 9am and ends at 2:30pm on Wednesday, will bring together Islamic scholars, policymakers, security experts and other stakeholders from Nigeria and abroad.

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, will serve as the Royal Father of the Day, while state governors, ministers, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers, captains of industry and members of the Muslim community are expected to attend.

According to the organisers, the conference will provide a platform for participants to discuss approaches to promoting peace, stability and inclusive development, as well as addressing emerging security challenges.

High-level plenary sessions will focus on national security and socio-economic development within a global context, while other sessions will examine diversity and inclusive coexistence.

Expert panels are also expected to discuss counter-terrorism and armed banditry, as well as ways of strengthening community resilience.

The programme will also feature global partnership roundtables on sustainable socio-economic development.

The organisers said the partnership between JIBWIS Nigeria and the Muslim World League reflected a shared commitment to diversity, social harmony, cooperation and peaceful coexistence.

The conference will be followed by a national preaching session at the JIBWIS headquarters in Utako, Abuja, on Wednesday evening. Participants are expected to depart Abuja on Thursday.
