Tinubu to Kebbi: Your pain is Nigeria’s pain

From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

President Bola Tinubu has assured the parents and people of Kebbi State that the Federal Government will use all resources within its power to rescue the 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Dankowasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State kidnapped by bandits.

Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, stated this during a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

He noted that the state government will not be left alone in this moment of crisis, stressing that “your pain is Nigeria’s pain.”

According to him, “I am here on behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on this current sorrow and burden shaking the nation – the abduction of the 25 girls of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Dankowasagu Local Government. Your Excellency, Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain.

“When one child is taken, every home in this nation grieves. When girls are abducted from their classrooms, seized by criminals, our collective conscience is assaulted. Mr President is deeply troubled by this tragedy. He shares your anguish, and he sent me to assure you that this is not the moment for politics.

“This grief transcends party lines, geography and identities. This is a time for unity, for compassion and for firm resolve against evil. Our priority is singular: our daughters must return home safely.”

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I must commend the sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigerian Police, DSS and Civil Defence Corps and all the paramilitary for their courage, tirelessness and sacrifices remain the backbone of the nation’s unity.

“You stand on the frontline so that the rest of us may sleep with hope. The nation appreciates you. We also honour the ultimate sacrifices made by some of our brave officers and soldiers and the family of the late General Musa Uba; his sacrifice will never be forgotten.

“When a soldier gives his life in defence of this nation, a part of our collective soul is touched. We will honour him and his family throughout his service to the nation. We will honour and appreciate the family of the Vice-Principal of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga. He paid the ultimate price in defence of his daughters, his students.”

“We extend our profound gratitude to the Kebbi State government, community leaders, vigilante groups, civil society groups and all the stakeholders who have rallied round us during this tragedy; your prayers, your unity for the rescue of these girls are commendable.

“On behalf of the President, I assure you that this government will not relent; we will use every instrument of the state to bring these girls back and to ensure that the perpetrators of this wickedness are brought to justice. Kebbi, you are not alone. Nigeria stands with you. We shall not rest until your daughters – our daughters – return to your warm embrace.”

Shettima prayed to Almighty God to soothe the hearts of the parents, government and entire people of Kebbi State, stressing that the Federal Government will use all measures to bring these girls back safely.

In his reaction, Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sending the Vice-President, Senator Kashim Shettima, to commiserate with Kebbi State, stressing that the state appreciated the visit and all efforts by the Federal Government to rescue the abducted girls.

He added that the state government is doing its best to support the security agencies to operate effectively, stressing that the state government had directed clerics to be praying for the safe return of the abducted girls.
