President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Kebbi State next week for a one-day working visit during which he will attend the 2026 Argungu International Fishing Festival and commission key projects executed by the state government.

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, disclosed this while receiving a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Aliyu Manager Mai-Ashane, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with his supporters.

The defectors were formally received at a ceremony held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Speaking on the planned presidential visit, Governor Idris said President Tinubu’s trip would further highlight the importance of the historic Argungu Festival and showcase development projects completed under the APC-led administration in the state.

“I want to use this medium to call on all residents of Kebbi State to come out en-masse to warmly welcome Mr President. We are now confident that Kebbi State belongs to the APC, and this is a clear indication that there is no opposition in the state,” Idris said.

The governor commended the defectors for what he described as their courage to take the right decision at the right time, adding that their decision to join the APC was informed by the visible developmental strides recorded across the state.

“I urge you to keep faith in this administration and join hands with us so that together we can take Kebbi State to greater heights,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Kebbi State APC chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal treatment within the party.

The National Organising Secretary of the APC and former Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, expressed appreciation for the development, assuring the defectors that the present administration under Governor Idris would not disappoint them.

He described the governor as a leader of wisdom and integrity, who consistently keeps his promises.

Responding on behalf of the defectors, Mai-Ashane thanked Governor Idris for his support to the people of Jega Local Government and Kebbi State at large.

“I have been approached severally to join the APC, but I declined. However, I was moved by your actions and the visible impact of your administration on the people of Kebbi State,” he said.

He described Governor Idris as a leader with vision and genuine concern for the welfare of his people, noting that the governor’s achievements convinced him to join the ruling party.

President Tinubu’s forthcoming visit is expected to further boost political activities in the state and showcase ongoing efforts to promote culture, tourism and infrastructural development in Kebbi.
