Prophet Williams Onuoha of the Galilie Christian Centre, Ejigbo, Lagos has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a matter of urgency, to release the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu who has been incarcerated since 2021. “ Mazi Kanu is not just an igbo man but someone rooted in African matters and the black race. He is a child of God, a seer. He is an activist just like the President during his NADECO days. Just like Tinubu, Kanu is fighting for the betterment of Igbo people. I don’t think it is a crime to seek a better life for your people,” he said this and many more in this interview.
Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration
If you read Acts 2:30, it says David is a king and a seer. Every great man has been spoken to by God. All what you see happening today, Nnamdi Kanu has predicted. And if you remember, I said it so many years ago that someone like him would come. What is Kanu agitating for? Good governance. Has that become a crime in Nigeria? The Igbo went through hell from 1966-67.
Many of our people were slaughtered. Over 3 million children died of malnutrition. It was that bad that many of our people you see today in Gabon were asylum seekers who were unable to return. This was what we passed through and after the war, our people continue to struggle. Even as a graduate, you hardly get a job as an Igbo man. It was hell on earth after the war. Sometimes in the early 90s, there were many who drowned on their way to Gabon and these deaths affected almost every family because their breadwinners were in that mishap. They all died in an attempt for a better life.
How can you be in a country where better living eludes you. This marginalization has been going on for so many years. If you check globally, our people are in almost all prisons all over the world. Our numbers are decimated daily. All these are why Kanu is crying: Give us good governance. Is that too much to ask of? All he wants to see is where an Igbo man who boards a flight at Sam Mbakwe airport and lands at Heathrow, can go and clear his goods at Onne port, in Rivers State, without going to Lagos.
Where the roads in the Southeast are well inter-linked and accessible. Is that too much to ask too? I recently travelled from Lagos to Osogbo; and I didn’t see a single checkpoint. Even the few we saw, no one is stopping or searching you. But going to the East, you will think the region is under siege. This is what Kanu described as hostage-taken situation and cried about it. In Joshua 6:1, it says ‘the gate of Jericho was securely shut, and the children of Israel, none goes out and none comes in.” Give us good road, give us good seaport, give us airport. Give us steady power supply.
Today, you can see what is going on in the power sector. People paying heavily for darkness. And somebody was brave enough to stand up and say this has to stop, and all you do is imprisoned him. Do you know how many die daily along Benin-Ore road. A young man, few years ago was to travel to Canada. He and his friend came all the way from Orlu, in Imo State so they could board their flight in Lagos, and they both died in an accident along the Benin-Ore road.
If there was an international airport in the east, they would still be alive today. These are the things we see, these are the things we pass through daily, and this is what Kanu saw and said enough is enough. This is why I am calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu. He has committed no offence. An average black man knows that Kanu is right. Whether you are a Christian or a Muslim, everyone knows he is right.
Sunday Igboho was arrested and has since been released. Why is Kanu’s case different? Is it because he is Igbo? Mind you, you cannot beat a child and tell that same child not to cry. The Lord told me Kanu is very sick, and we don’t want anything to happen to him. The President should use his power and release him. We know he can do it. As a former NADECO member, let the President do the right thing. We all remember Tinubu’s fight against bad governance during the Babangida and Abacha era. He (Tinubu) fought for democracy and good governance and we all applauded him.
There are lots of similarities between his fight and Kanu’s. Mr President, please release a fellow activist. There is so much killings in Igbo land as we speak. People are being killed everyday. The insecurity is so unprecedented. This is not the right time to be a youth in the East. If you gather, you are accused of something else. The government should seriously look into this. Something is seriously wrong because as it looks, there are people sponsoring and benefiting from this insecurity in the region. As a young Igbo man, once you are picked up, you are instantly tagged a security threat. This has to stop. Let the government look into it quickly. The only man who can speak sanity into the region is Nnamdi Kanu. That is why I am personally calling on Mr President to release him unconditionally. We need peace in Southeast. No good thing comes out of crisis. Only bad memories.
Look at this scenario; if the Federal Government can pardon Boko Haram members and rehabilitate them, and even give them jobs; why is it difficult to release Nnamdi Kanu and other incarcerated IPOB members? Where some are favoured than the others is called what?
Mr President you have to do this for the Igbo because I remember when Awolowo was in Calabar prison, it was Ojukwu who went and released him. You owe the Igbo to release Kanu. We know you know the truth. Mr President let the truth speak through you by releasing him. Do this so that history will remember you.
Japa syndrome
Mass exodus has and will never be healthy for a country that experiences it. When your best hands leave the country, tell me what is left for that country. This started during the American lottery visa period. That was when we began to lose our good hands. This method used by the Americans in form of visa lottery, is the Babylonian method of the old. They make you work all day, at the end you don’t have time for yourself and when you are old, it’s game over.
We see people sell off their property because they want to go look for greener pasture. The worst is that they are leaving with their children who may never know their origin again. If you read Ruth 1:6, that is exactly what’s happening now. In this movement, so many marriages have crashed, so may children have lost their true identity because of European influence.
They now teach them how it’s a sin to have more than one wife but how it’s okay for a man to marry a man. We try to live like the West and this is reducing our numbers everyday. These children you have decided to take abroad will never come back again. At the end, strangers will occupy their land. The African culture is gradually eroding. Japa is not the best for Africa, it’s not the best for our system. It’s not good for our culture. How do we make it stop? Let’s fix our country. When the White came to Africa, the first thing they did was to change our identity.
We began to bear their names. They tell you Nwachukwu is not good and you begin to answer John. We forget that all African names have great meanings. Names that gave us true identity. The West never and will never have anything good for us. All they are after is themselves. That’s why I will continue to pray for Russia, because if Russia is free, Africa will be free. The West sees Russia just as they see Africa.
Global crisis
America should be held responsible for many of the world’s crises today. They have their hands in all the cookie jars. After the second world war, treaties were made. NATO was born. Germany that caused that war became a member. Poland became a member but you said Russia can’t join. Now you came to Russian’s backyard and said Ukraine can join NATO.
Do you now see why they are the problem of the world? The strong man that has become a thorn in their flesh is Putin. They can never defeat him. When I said the matter between Israel and Palestine will divide the UN, has it not divided them now? The UN has become a toothless bull dog that barks but can’t bite.
It should be scrapped. A union where no African country is among the veto power nations can not stand. Iran has also entered the crisis. Little by little it’s getting bigger. Soon it will go out of hand and we pray a full scale world war don’t happen. I see the end of UN.
It’s not and have never been a United Nation but a divided nation. Many don’t know that South Africa is not yet free. That’s why I pray for somebody like Malema and I pray he is not compromised like Mandela.
Religion and poverty
Religion is one tool that the West have used to hold us so tightly. And with the way it is, it’s going to be very difficult to break free. Today a lot is happening all in the name of religion. And what is the main cause? Poverty. Do you see religion getting so much grip on the West? No. It can only happen in Africa. Europe and America are well structured that religion has no hold on them. In Europe, what are you looking for? The government has made everything easy and accessible for you. Good education system, light, water, gas, good infrastructure. If you are not working, the government has made it possible for you to get stipends. So what will make you leave all these comfort and say you want to become a pastor? Many you see today were never called. Let me tell you today, I refused to be a pastor. I so much disliked it because my elder brother was one. And I never liked the way he was ‘used’. It was like he became a slave. I hated him the day he destroyed the only television we had.
Television that gave me joy and made me popular among my peers. The day my brother used his gold ring to sow a seed, I became furious and promised myself I will never be a pastor. But look at it today. The more I avoided being one, the more God showed me why He is God.
When I became pastor, it took me one year and six months before I was able to take offering. Because I saw accepting offering as a ritual from the giver.
It took the intervention of a Reverend Father and a woman of God from Onitsha before I started accepting it. In the East where I come from, families sell property to train their children in seminary school to become priests. In Switzerland, they announced for people to come and join the priesthood and get paid and nobody will come out. This is because they are already comfortable. Being a priest means you will lose all that comfort you are used to. Why am I saying all these. People begin to do things just to make a living. Look at what is happening on social media? People do a lot to earn money.
They even post nude so they can get a lot of views. It’s like this because the West programmed it to be so. They know the day we become conscious, the day we get it right, it’s game over for them. Don’t get me wrong here. Just as you have the bad, we also have the good. There are good men to God who are trying to make this country great through their prayers. 2 Timothy 2:19 ‘God knows His people’ in the book of James, the Bible says judgement will start in the house of God. What is happening now is bound to happen. People are no longer enthusiastic about worshipping God again, because a lot of these religious leaders we look up to have failed us. Many have been compromised. They now sit and dine with government.
How do you now criticise someone who is feeding and paying you? How can you claim to be in the ministry for over 5 decades yet you are afraid to speak the truth because you don’t want to die. In the book of Ezekiel 3:16, God said if I send you to go and tell someone to stop doing evil and you refuse, I will hold you accountable. Some of these religious leaders will be held accountable because they have refused to speak the truth. Do you know that if the men of God we have in this country want the government to do the right thing, they can actually make it happen. They have God and the people. But they won’t because many have been compromised.
Are the Igbo truly marginalised?
Yes, they are but God has always favored them. Let me tell you something. The Bible was written because of the Igbo. Numbers 6: 27, the Lord told Moses and Aaron to name their children after Him. That’s why you see in Igbo almost all our names have God in it. Oluchukwu, Ikechukwu, Chukwu, and so on. We have followed God’s instruction on that. If you read about the death of Christ in the Bible, it is written that he died the worst of deaths, on the Cross. In Igbo land, if somebody hangs himself, he is seen to have died the worst of deaths. There are custodians of the tradition that will come and carry him for special cleansing.
You see what happened in Genesis 38:8. In Nigeria today, the only people that take care of their brothers’ wives when they are dead are the Igbo. Read Hebrew 11:22, we are still the only people that anywhere we die, that corpse must be taken home for burial. You read where Joseph instructed his brother to exhume his bones when they eventually leave Egypt.
You see, if anyone tries to fight the Igbo, that person is making a serious mistake, because we are God’s people. So many things we do are all in the the Bible, especially the old Testament. In Job 36:15, it says ‘God teaches us through suffering.. and used our distress to open our eyes. The Igbo have suffered too much, and through that suffering, they are now independent people. Deuteronomy 15: 14, speaks on serving someone for some years and getting settled later. So most of what we do are in the Bible. We knew God before the West brought Him to us. We are supposed to teach them about God and not the other way round.
Divorce and Africa?
Our mothers used to tell us that there is so much tolerance in marriage that makes it last. But today we want to emulate the Whites. Let us go back to the scriptures. The Bible says that Sarah called Abraham ‘My Lord’. The man is the lord over his household.
The woman is his helper. They are supposed to do everything to make the man happy. Those days, if a woman cannot conceive, she gets the man another woman. Today, divorce is common because it’s love based on materialism. What are you willing to give, what are you bringing to the table. ‘The man is doing well’, not that ‘I love you.’
Today, we now emulate the whites. Go to the West and see what’s happening. We hear and see of cases where a husband and wife go abroad and after few years, the wife begins to behave like a white woman. The Arabs and the Chinese are the only ones who still preserve their culture no matter where they find themselves.
Today, some one will tell you it’s okay for a man to marry a man, but it not for a man to marry two women. Woman marrying woman, man marrying dog. Something that God frowns at totally. We have truly lost it as a people. The Bible says: ‘ My people perish for lack of knowledge,’ Hosea 4:6. May God return us to the original track.
