President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following Senate confirmation of its members on 16 December, signalling renewed momentum for transforming Nigeria’s power sector.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the new board features experienced leaders tasked with advancing reforms under the Electricity Act, 2023.

Key appointments include Dr Musiliu Olalekan Oseni as Chairman, effective 1 December 2025, until the completion of his ten-year tenure. Dr Oseni, a veteran commissioner since January 2017 and former Vice Chairman, brings deep regulatory expertise.

Dr Yusuf Ali steps in as Vice Chairman, also effective 1 December, building on his commissioner role since February 2022.

Other members include returning commissioners Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye (both since 2017), Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello (since 2020), and Chidi Ike (since 2022), as well as first-termer Dr Fouad Animashaun, an energy economist and former CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu charged the board to “deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.”
