President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) board following Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16, signalling renewed momentum for transforming Nigeria’s power sector.
In a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the new board features experienced leaders tasked with advancing reforms under the Electricity Act, 2023. Key appointments include Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, as Chairman, effective December 1, 2025, until his 10-year tenure ends. Oseni, a veteran commissioner since January 2017 and former Vice Chairman, brings deep regulatory expertise.
Yusuf Ali steps in as Vice Chairman, also effective December 1, building on his commissioner role from February 2022. Other members include returning commissioners, Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye (both since 2017), Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello (since 2020), Chidi Ike (since 2022) and Fouad Animashaun, an energy economist and former CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu charged the board to “deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.”
