Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has highlighted the Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to harnessing Nigeria’s livestock sector as a major driver of economic transformation, particularly in rural areas.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, the SGF said this at the Annual Blueprint Impact Series and Awards Ceremony in Abuja yesterday, stressing that the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development under Tinubu’s administration demonstrated a focused effort to unlock the sector’s vast economic potential.

“Nigeria is home to millions of livestock, yet we have barely scratched the surface of its economic possibilities, ranging from meat and dairy to hides and skins and processed exports for regional and global markets,” Akume said.

He added that the ongoing strategic investments, infrastructure upgrades, enhanced value chains and increased regional trade, would position livestock as a cornerstone of socio-economic advancement.

The SGF also praised Blueprint Media for championing development journalism and supporting nation-building through its annual awards recognising excellence in various sectors. “The media is an indispensable ally in our democracy, functioning as a watchdog, shaping public opinion, and holding leaders accountable,” Akume noted.

Highlighting the keynote address’s theme, ‘Exploring Potentials of Livestock Exports in Nigeria,’ Akume underscored its alignment with the government’s vision for economic diversification and growth.

He congratulated the award recipients for their contributions to national development and sectoral excellence.

The event reinforced the role of media and government collaboration in promoting sustainable development, with a keen focus on Nigeria’s livestock sector as a catalyst for inclusive growth.
