President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their commanding 4-0 victory over the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs in Uyo, describing the win as a source of renewed national pride and hope in Nigeria’s bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the players for their hunger, passion, and determination on the pitch, saying the team’s outstanding performance has reignited the football spirit across the country.
“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” President Tinubu said.

He acknowledged the excitement spreading nationwide, emphasising that “the mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.”
The President further assured the Super Eagles and coaching staff of the Federal Government’s unwavering support: “As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too.”
Concluding his message, President Tinubu expressed anticipation for the team to represent Nigeria on the global stage with pride: “We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage.”
