President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Evangelist Uma Ukpai, describing him as “one of God’s generals” whose ministry profoundly influenced Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement he personally signed, President Tinubu noted that Ukpai, who died at age 80, was a renowned international evangelist and the founder of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
President Tinubu highlighted Ukpai’s role as an anointed crusader who championed the gospel with fiery passion and commitment.
He recalled the evangelist’s impactful crusades in the 1980s, notably the Greater Ibadan and Greater Lagos for Christ crusades, which were pivotal in Nigeria’s religious revival.

Born in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Ukpai overcame early life challenges to fulfil his divine calling. His mission extended beyond evangelism to uniting diverse faiths and fostering peace and harmony across Nigeria’s many communities.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Ukpai’s humanitarian contributions, including establishing charities, schools, and hospitals for the needy. He prayed for eternal rest for Ukpai and extended condolences to his wife, Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, their children, and the entire ministry.
“He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith,” President Tinubu affirmed, urging Ukpai’s family to draw comfort from his enduring legacy.
