President Bola Tinubu has approved the regularisation of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers serving in various Federal Unity Colleges across the country.
This is, perhaps, a move aimed at strengthening the teaching workforce and improving the quality of education in the country’s federal secondary schools.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the development yesterday and explained that the approval followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which screened eligible PTA teachers across the country’s Federal Unity Colleges.
He disclosed that the exercise verified 3,252 teachers in the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors, paving the way for their absorption into the Federal Civil Service upon the completion of all statutory requirements.
He described the approval as a landmark intervention that demonstrates the President’s commitment to addressing the shortage of teachers and repositioning the education sector.
The minister said priority would be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom had served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years. “This is a way the President shows he cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country.
“Nevertheless, priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years. This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service,” he said.

He also explained that the regularisation represents one of the most significant interventions by the Tinubu administration to address the longstanding shortage of teachers in Federal Unity Colleges, while recognising the commitment of PTA teachers, who have continued to support learning despite years of uncertainty.
The minister said integrating the experienced teachers into the public service would preserve valuable institutional knowledge, strengthen classroom instruction and improve learning outcomes in the colleges.
He added that the exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s broader reforms to improve teacher quality and reposition Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He assured that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to work with relevant government agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes required for the issuance of the final recruitment approval in line with extant public service regulations.
He appreciated the President for approving the regularisation process, describing the decision as another demonstration of the administration’s resolve to place education at the centre of national development.
The minister stressed that no education system could rise above the quality of its teachers, and that investing in the teaching profession remains critical to achieving improved learning outcomes.
He also assured all verified PTA teachers that the regularisation process would be concluded with transparency, fairness and strict adherence to due process.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes and ensure that every learner in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges has access to quality education delivered by competent and dedicated teachers.
