Tinubu not against us – Northern minority tribes
  • Backs Tinubu’s re-election bid

Leaders of minority tribes in northern Nigeria, under the umbrella of Northern Minorities 4 Tinubu, have debunked the claims by some leaders in the region that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not have the interest of the region at heart, hence working against its people.

The leaders stated that the President has repeatedly backed his words with actions, which is an indication that he clearly supports the welfare and well-being of the people of the region in line with the promises he made during the 2023 elections.

Jacob Edi, the leader of the group, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday that the claims against the President are untrue, stressing that the President is the best thing that has happened to northern minorities in recent years.

He said, “Our mission is to add our voice to the growing, unstoppable wave of support for President Tinubu. What you see across the country today is not manufactured hype. It is organic. It is conviction.

“Nigerians believe, and rightly so, that under Tinubu, the nation is finally on the right path. Since 1999, we have never seen anything like this. Leaders from opposition parties are openly pledging support for a sitting president.

“The governors of Plateau, Caleb Mutfwang (PDP); Anambra, Charles Chukwuma Soludo (APGA); Osun, Ademola Adeleke (PDP); and Abia, Dr Alex Otti (LP), have all boldly announced their support. That is not politics as usual. That is proof of leadership that cuts across divides.

“Sadly, while genuine support is rising, a handful of self-serving elites are pushing a poisonous lie that Tinubu is anti-North. Nothing can be further from the truth. Let us be blunt: this is not about truth. It is about power. Their oligarchical instinct to dominate is at play. They shout the loudest, but they do not represent us. We, the northern minorities, the true majority of the North, reject their falsehood.

“We have the facts. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPCL, the MD/CEO of Ajaokuta Steel Company, and the very cerebral Minister of Information and National Orientation are all northerners. Is there any other North unknown to us, the minorities of northern Nigeria?

“Let us not forget the creation of the North-West and North-Central Development Commissions, which came into existence by the vision of one man, to tackle our region’s unique challenges and begin the narrative of equitable allocation of resources. For the first time in history, an indigene of the FCT sits at the Federal Executive Council. This is not tokenism.

“They are facts on the ground. And to those who doubt, we say: wait and see. In the weeks ahead, two million northerners, from all 19 northern states, will converge on Abuja to show where we stand. Not with the loud minority of detractors, but with President Tinubu, the one who truly understands the dynamics of power as it concerns nation-building.

“Yes, Nigerians are feeling the pain of reforms. We are, too. But these pains are like labour pains: temporary, necessary, and leading to something greater, which might be a bundle of joy. When the results fully manifest, this country will look back and thank Tinubu for the courage to act.”

Edi disclosed the plans to inaugurate state chapters across the 19 northern states to mobilise and build momentum for Tinubu’s re-election. “In 2027, the North will deliver not just victory, but an authoritative, crushing victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
