President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka in a fresh cabinet reshuffle.

Anite-Uzoka has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, her third portfolio under the Tinubu administration.

The nomination was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The President has formally transmitted Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Until his nomination, Oyedele, an indigene of Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded sweeping reforms aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system and boosting government revenue. Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert with over two decades of professional experience. He obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology before earning a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he joined in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

He is currently a professor at Babcock University and also serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele is expected to strengthen ongoing fiscal and tax reforms as the Federal Government pushes to improve revenue generation and stabilise the economy.
