President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Kogi State following the tragic boat accident in Ibaji Local Government Area on Tuesday, which resulted in multiple fatalities.

The victims were traders travelling from Ibaji in Kogi State to Ilushi market in Edo State when the mishap occurred.

According to a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, describing the incident as both shocking and deeply unfortunate, President Tinubu highlighted the tragedy as a devastating blow to those pursuing honest livelihoods.

“I am profoundly sorrowful over this heartbreaking incident. These were hardworking individuals seeking to sustain their families, and their loss is a grave reminder of the critical importance of safety in our waterways,” the President said.

He praised the swift response of first responders at the scene and called on federal, state, and local emergency agencies to intensify efforts in providing support to survivors and families affected by the disaster.

He also urged all operators of water transportation to place safety above financial gain in their daily operations to prevent future tragedies. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed and speedy healing for those injured.
