President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, which resulted in the loss of at least 35 young lives and left many others injured.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president also condoled with the government and people of Oyo State, as well as the grieving families who, he said, have suffered this unimaginable loss.

Tinubu said he stands in solidarity during this time of mourning, offering prayers for the souls of those who perished in this unfortunate event.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, President Tinubu directed relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He underscored the necessity of determining whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to this heartbreaking incident. “It is imperative that we ensure a transparent and accountable process to uncover the truth,” he stated.

The president also urged the Oyo State government to take immediate and necessary measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.

He called for a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues to safeguard attendees.

Furthermore, President Tinubu appealed to event organisers to prioritise the safety of all participants, especially children. He highlighted the critical need for professional security measures, proper logistics, and adherence to safety protocols at all events. “Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” he asserted.
