Tinubu mourns Kano contingent after tragic Gateway Games crash

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over a tragic accident involving members of the Kano State contingent returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The accident has claimed several lives, casting a pall over the recent sporting event, which celebrates unity and athletic excellence across Nigeria.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended heartfelt condolences to the Kano State government, the families of the victims, and the entire Nigerian nation. “This is a devastating blow to the nation. It casts a shadow over the National Sports Festival, a celebration of unity, talent, and excellence,” he said.

Paying tribute to the victims, the president acknowledged their dedication and aspirations, describing them as embodiments of the resilient Nigerian spirit. He emphasised the need for concrete measures to improve transportation safety standards nationwide to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The president also prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and strength for their bereaved families.
