Tinubu lauds MOUAU for partnering with his admin in economic diversification

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the management and staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, for partnering his administration in its march towards the nation’s economic diversification.

Tinubu who gave the pass mark at Umudike while speaking as special guest at the 11th Convocation of the University, added by this, the University was realising the mission and vision for which it was established.

Tinubu, represented by the Executive Director of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Garba Sharabutu, stated that good education and national development would remained cardinal principles of his government .

“It is gratifying to note that this University, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and it’s staff are working so hard to realise the mission and vision of the University, despite the many challenges confronting us as a nation.

“As the nation grapples with the challenges of diversifying her economy, Nigeria certainly needs the solid support of her scientists and experts. Your technical skills and expertise will continue to be required until we get to the promised land where food security is achieved as a nation,” Tinubu said.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe said the university has continued to record several achievements under his watch.

Iwe appealed to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to restore some courses that were being offered in the past by the school, which the NUC stopped, some years ago.

The VC was of the view such action would further increase students population, adding that doing so would also enable teeming admission seekers to get the opportunity to study the courses of their choice.

He also called on the Federal government to release the take off grant of the University, as recommended by the 2016-2020 Visitation Panel report.

He congratulated the graduating students for completing their studies and urged them to remain good ambassadors of MOUAU wherever they may find themselves.

The Vice Chancellor informed that 121 students made First Class in various departments and colleges out of 8369 graduating scholars.

He announced that Nicholas Chukwuka, from the department of Computer Engineering, who made 4.9 CGPA, was the best graduating student.

He charged the present students, to be of good conduct, while advising parents and guardians to use the University’s payment platforms to pay their wards’ school fees.

Chukwuka thanked the management of the institution and his fellow students for their encouragement which he said made him to excel.
