- Says NELFUND benefits indigent students
Executive Director, Estate Services, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Ezekiel Nya-Etok, has attached President Bola Tinubu to the class of former President Shehu Shagari, Lateef Jakande and General Sani Abacha, who championed mass housing for citizens.
Nya-Etok, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told journalists yesterday in Abuja, noted that President was working to deliver democratic dividends amid hunger and insecurity.
The former governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom said: “Housing is one of his greatest legacies that he is going to have as an achievement.
“Do you know that after Shagari Housing and Jakande Housing you can’t talk of any other administration? The other person that unfortunately we don’t give him enough credit is Abacha. Yes, Abacha did a lot for housing.
“There is something called Enterprise Estate and it’s going to be all over and Nigerians will see a complete paradigm shift on housing delivery. I think that housing is going to be one of the biggest achievements of this administration.
“You can calculate today, between a thousand three hundred and a thousand eight hundred there about. The World Bank, all the global indices have said Nigeria’s macroeconomics have stabilised. It is the macroeconomics that is the foundation.
According to him, President Tinubu took difficult structural reforms and demonstrated openness to professional competence in appointments.
“I speak from the perspective of a professional who spent decades advocating improvements in governance, and Nigeria’s housing sector before entering public service,” he said.
He added that his appointment by the president gave him first-hand experience in the governance structure, adding that his assessment deserves the same independent scrutiny as any other political opinion.
“My appointment to the Federal Housing Authority offers a personal example.
I was not a member of the President’s political party when I was appointed. My professional engagement in housing had extended over three decades.
“I regard my appointment as evidence that professional experience can be considered alongside political factors in public appointments.
“While I do not suggest that one appointment establishes a universal pattern across government, nor claim
to know every consideration that informed the President’s decision my appointment definitely proves that Mr President has great respect for competence and professionalism.
“I therefore consider it important to
acknowledge an experience that shaped my understanding of his approach to leadership.
Economic Reform and the Reality of Hardship
While these reforms will definitely translate to a better tomorrow for the generality of the citizens, it could be a mistakes in political communication to assume that economic statistics can substitute for the lived
experiences of citizens,” he added.
He, further, stated that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), would benefit so many indigent students, adding that in his days it was difficult for most of his contemporaries to secure funding to complete their education without the support of well-to-do citizens.
