President Bola Tinubu has said his administration will focus on resolving Nigeria’s longstanding challenges rather than dwelling on the circumstances under which they were inherited.
The President spoke on Thursday in Abuja, where he received the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), led by its National President, Salimon Akanni Oladiti, at the State House.
Tinubu said the government would apply technical expertise and evidence-based assessments to determine how best to address the difficulties confronting the country’s refineries.
He identified research, technical evaluation, restructuring and stronger management as part of the measures required to improve the facilities and make them more effective.
According to the President, assuming office also meant accepting responsibility for the problems attached to the assets inherited from previous administrations.

“I’m not a man who goes looking back on everything because I’ve accepted the assets and liabilities of my predecessor,” he said.
Tinubu added that the age of a problem would not determine whether his administration should address it, stressing that the responsibility now rested with his government.
“No matter what has happened in the years past, it’s now my responsibility as president to fix it and make it work for the greatest common good of our population. I take responsibility for that, and we will do it,” he said.
The President’s comments come as the Federal Government continues efforts to improve the performance of Nigeria’s refineries and tackle wider challenges within the petroleum sector.
