President Bola Tinubu has celebrated the 60th birthday of the chairman of Access Holdings Plc and Coronation Group, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, crediting the renowned banker with playing a significant role in the growth of Nigeria’s financial sector and the development of public institutions.
In a special birthday tribute issued on Thursday, Tinubu described Aig-Imoukhuede as one of a generation of Nigerians who “took bold bets” on the country and demonstrated that Nigerian institutions could compete at the highest levels.
The president particularly highlighted Aig-Imoukhuede’s transformation of Access Bank during his tenure as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, which began in 2002.
According to Tinubu, Aig-Imoukhuede’s years at Access Bank formed an important part of his contribution to Nigeria’s corporate landscape, with the institution recording significant growth under his leadership.
“Aigboje has earned his place among a generation of Nigerians who took bold bets on our country and proved that Nigerian institutions could compete at the highest levels,” Tinubu said.
Beyond banking, the president noted Aig-Imoukhuede’s contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s financial markets, citing his service as president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and founding chairman of the FMDQ Securities Exchange.
He is also the co-chairman of EnterpriseNGR, an industry advocacy organisation focused on developing Nigeria’s financial services sector.
Tinubu further recalled Aig-Imoukhuede’s involvement in government, particularly his appointment in 2012 as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments.

The President, however, reserved particular commendation for the banker’s philanthropic and public-sector development work through the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, which he established with his wife, Ofovwe.
Tinubu said the foundation had invested in strengthening public service, preparing public servants for greater responsibilities, and supporting healthcare initiatives.
“I am pleased that after considerable success in private enterprise, Aigboje continues to devote his experience and resources to the progress of our country,” the president said.
The president said Aig-Imoukhuede’s 60th birthday provided an opportunity to reflect not only on his achievements in private enterprise but also on the wider impact of his work across the financial sector, public service, and philanthropy.
“Sixty is an important milestone. For Aigboje, it is also an opportunity to reflect on a career that has touched many institutions and opened doors for many people,” Tinubu said.
He congratulated Aig-Imoukhuede alongside his wife, children, family, friends, and associates, wishing him continued good health, happiness, and many more years of service to Nigeria and humanity.
“Happy 60th birthday, Aigboje,” the president said.
