The Northeast Coalition for Truth, Justice and Responsible Leadership (NECTJRL), an amalgam of political associations, has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership against excluding the former governor of Borno State, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, from the northeast campaign team for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Chairman of the group, Alhaji Abba Chama Habib, gave the warning over the weekend at a press conference organised by the coalition in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Habib said the group’s warning was fueled by a petition from another political association calling for the exclusion of Ali Sheriff from Tinubu’s campaign organisation for the Northeast.
He said the coalition found the call divisive and a politically motivated attack on the former governor.
“The recent petition calling for the exclusion of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff from the campaign structure for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election is, in our view, an attempt to weaken an experienced Northeastern leader and create unnecessary division among people who should be working together,” the group stated.
It described Ali Sheriff as a political figure whose influence and grassroots appeal can attract support for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket in 2027.
