President Tinubu on Monday flew out to Paris, on a new Airbus A330 to Paris on Monday, replacing the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) that was purchased under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

According to a post attached with pictures on his verified X handle @aonanuga1956, Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said with the new aircraft, Nigeria will save millions of dollars annually on fuel and maintenance expenses, which he said was purchased at a fraction of the market value.

He noted that the suggestion to swap out the B737-700(BBJ) came after Nigeria’s parliament held an inquiry into the aircraft’s safety record and economic viability, particularly after one of the aircraft’s systems failed while on a trip to Saudi Arabia.

The security and intelligence committee of the Nigerian Senate suggested replacing the presidential fleet’s outdated aircraft to save operating costs and downtime.
