Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has thrown his weight behind the soccer talent hunt being organized by Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi’s Foundation.

At a ceremony in his house in Lagos on Monday, Asiwaju Tinubu said he’s proud to be associated with Mikel’s effort at discovering young football talents, stressing that he would commit himself totally to support the initiative at giving the youths in the country positive direction.

“I’m very proud and honoured to receive you in my house. You inspired many youths in the country with your patriotism. You are not just a symbol to the youths but to elders and some of us the politicians. I’ve been supporting many initiatives like yours and I will commit myself to the promotion of the ideals of your foundation,” the former Lagos governor stressed.

Earlier, Mikel had sought for the blessing of Asiwaju Tinubu in his effort to give back to the streets.

“I’m a product of the streets and I’ve decided to give back to the streets. We are organizing a programme titled ‘Nigeria’s Next Football SuperStars’ to help children between the ages of 13 and 16 years to be Africa’s next football superstar.

The winners will be chosen by top class coaches and scouts with the nine selected winners to receive two weeks training sessions at top English club and a chance to earn a year contract,” Mikel said.

He added that the programme would cut across Nigeria, South Africa and Algeria with each country holding three trials.

The Nigerian trials, he stressed would hold from March 20 to May 9 in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos respectively.
