President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Alhassan Yahaya on his election as the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) following the Union’s 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference, which took place in Owerri on November 27, 2024.
The President praised the Union for a rancor-free electoral process. According to a statement released by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said Yahaya’s decisive victory was a clear indication of the confidence the NUJ members had in his leadership qualities and vision for the organization.
“The overwhelming support for Yahaya reflects the trust that journalists across Nigeria have placed in him to lead the Fourth Estate of the Realm,” he noted.
The President expressed optimism that Yahaya’s extensive experience, particularly his previous role as deputy president of the NUJ, would guide him to navigate the challenges ahead.
He also underscored the constitutional roles of journalism in promoting the growth of democracy and the society at large. “I encourage you to embrace your responsibilities with a sense of patriotism and integrity. A vibrant media landscape is crucial for informing citizens and holding power accountable,” he remarked.
