President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government, and the people of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad.
The Nigerian leader, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed the President’s message on June 12, 2025, reaffirming the nation’s empathy during this difficult time.
The ill-fated flight was carrying two pilots, 10 cabin crew members, and passengers including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
The tragic incident has left many families grieving and nations mourning the loss of their citizens.
President Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow and offered prayers for the victims and their families.
He said, “The tragedy of Air India reminds us, once again, of the fragility of life and the common bond of humanity that holds us together.”
He further emphasised Nigeria’s solidarity with India, stating, “At this moment of sorrow and pain, Nigeria stands in solidarity with our friend, brother and partner, Narendra Modi, and the people of India.
“Nigeria also deeply sympathises with the families and friends of other victims on board the aircraft.”
President Tinubu also extended his sympathies to the leaders and people of Great Britain, Portugal, and Canada, acknowledging the loss of their nationals in the crash.
Praising the prompt response of Indian emergency agencies, the president expressed confidence in their ability and compassion to manage the crisis effectively.
He concluded with a prayer, saying, “The Almighty God will receive the souls of the departed and comfort their families.”
