President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday celebrated retired Major-General Paul Chabri Tarfa on his 85th birthday, describing him as a distinguished soldier, patriot and elder statesman whose life has been defined by honour, discipline, courage and unwavering service to Nigeria.
In a tribute to the former military officer, the President said Tarfa had devoted his life to the unity, peace and progress of the country, both during his military career and in retirement.
“Today, I join family, friends, and associates in celebrating Major-General Paul Chabri Tarfa (rtd), a distinguished soldier, patriot, and elder statesman, as you mark your 85th birthday,” Tinubu said.
“Your life has been defined by honour, discipline, courage, and commitment to the service of our great nation. Throughout your illustrious military career and in retirement, you remained steadfast in devotion to Nigeria’s unity, peace, and progress.”
The President also commended Tarfa’s leadership as Chairman of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), saying he has continued to deploy his wealth of experience and strategic insight to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of communities devastated by insurgency.
“My dear General, as Chairman of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), you continue to exemplify purposeful leadership, bringing to bear your vast experience and strategic insight in supporting the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and sustainable development of communities devastated by years of insurgency,” he said.
Tinubu further praised the retired General’s calm disposition, sound judgment and selfless commitment to national service, saying those qualities had earned him the admiration of generations of Nigerians and established him as a mentor to younger leaders.
“I have always admired your calm disposition, sound judgment, and selfless approach to national service. These enduring qualities have earned you the respect of generations of Nigerians and have made you a worthy mentor to younger leaders across the country,” the President said.
He thanked Tarfa for what he described as a lifetime of sacrifice, patriotism and exemplary leadership, praying for God to grant him sound health, renewed strength, enduring peace and many more years of service to the nation and humanity.
